As I navigated the maze of repatriating back to Canada after ten years away, I found myself facing an unexpected challenge: making new friends. The global pandemic had turned the world upside down, making an already difficult transition even more isolating. It felt like moving to a new country all over again, with new health plans, driver’s licenses, bank accounts, and the daunting task of building a new social circle from scratch.
For the past decade, my friendships had been formed through travel, but with the world shut down, I found myself asking, “Now what?” This experience became a significant driving force behind the re-launch of Grit & Grace Adventures. I realized that many women over 50 are in the same boat, yearning for connection and friendship in a world that seems to grow more isolating by the day.
Making friends as an adult is tough, and it doesn’t get easier with age. When you're younger, social circles often form naturally through school, work, or parenting. But for women over 50, those traditional avenues may no longer be available. Life changes, such as retirement, relocation, or the end of long-term relationships, can leave us feeling adrift. So, where do you meet new friends when those conventional paths have closed?
Travel has always been my answer. There’s something uniquely bonding about exploring new places with others, sharing experiences that create lasting memories. It’s part of why I opened Grit & Grace Clothing – to create a space where women can come together and connect. And it’s a big reason behind the re-launch of Grit & Grace Adventures.
Small group travel offers a perfect solution for women over 50 looking to forge new friendships. Unlike larger tours, small group travel fosters a more intimate environment where meaningful connections can flourish. You’re not just a face in the crowd; you’re part of a close-knit group. Our trips are designed around common interests – culture, food, yoga, and adventure. Sharing these passions with others creates a natural foundation for friendship.
Traveling with a small group of like-minded women provides a supportive network. There’s comfort in knowing you’re not alone and that others are navigating similar life transitions.
Small groups also allow for more personalized and authentic travel experiences. We dive deep into the local culture, which not only enriches our journey but also strengthens the bonds between us. When I moved back to Canada, I felt lost. I missed the camaraderie of my travel friends, the spontaneous adventures, and the shared stories. I wanted to recreate that sense of community and adventure, not just for myself but for other women like me. That’s why I poured my heart into Grit & Grace Adventures. I wanted to offer more than just a travel experience – I wanted to create opportunities for connection and friendship.
If you’re feeling the same way I did – isolated, longing for connection, and unsure of where to find it – I invite you to join us on a Grit & Grace adventure. Our small group trips are more than just vacations; they’re journeys of self-discovery, laughter, and new friendships. Together, we can explore the world and forge bonds that will last a lifetime.
Reconnecting with others and building new friendships can be challenging, especially after 50. But through small group travel, we can reclaim that sense of adventure and connection.
I believe that it’s never too late to make new friends and create lasting memories. So, why not take the leap? Join us on our next adventure and discover the joy of shared experiences and newfound friendships.
